Ukraine could receive new Russian S-400 air defense systems from Turkey, - Defense Express.
In exchange for this, yesterday the United States promised to return Ankara to the program of transition to the F-35 aircraft. Five years ago, Turkey started the implementation of the agreement with Russia under which it received four Russian S-400 air defense systems and in response, the US excluded Turkey from the F-35 program. If Turkey agrees to make the S-400 systems available to Ukraine, perhaps replacing them with Patriot systems, then the US would be prepared to allow Turkey to return to the F-35 program. As early as May 2023, the White House offered to transfer Russian S-400 air defense systems to Ukraine, but Ankara refused.
However, due to sanctions following Russia's war against Ukraine Turkey will struggle to service the systems and get missiles for the S-400 without falling under US sanctions. Russia is also seen as a less reliable arms supplier compared to five years ago, given that production is all geared towards sustaining the war effort against Ukraine. The US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland visited Turkey yesterday and again raised the topic. There have been no decisions made by Turkey, which maintains relationships with Russia.
